When I heard that we'd be expecting our fourth child at the end of October, one of the things I thought was, "Well, at least that means I'll avoid being enormously pregnant when it's really hot out." I figured by the time that Flash was due to arrive, we'd be eating soup and pulling out snuggly blankets and making applesauce.
Once again, I was wrong.
This week has been really warm. The temperatures have been in the mid-80's. Not at all like fall. More like mid-summer.
So a few days ago we did the only thing we could. We went ahead and pretended it was mid-summer.
It started innocently enough, with an empty storage bin that I filled with water, thinking the girls could "wash dishes" or play tea or something. But of course, soon people asked about swimsuits, and I said, "Why not?" And then swimsuits led to splashing.
And splashing back.
And then someone had to climb in...
At that point we decided we weren't fooling anyone -- we might as well fill the wading pool.
No one protested.
We spent most of the morning and all of after-naps outside.
We found that a turkey baster makes a fascinating toy, particularly when it's way too hot to even think about basting something in an oven.
Daisy chains are well worth the effort...
And popsicles are just as tasty in October as they are in July.
At least here in Mountain View. (Oh, what a change we'll have next year!)

Love all these updates! Now, when am I ever going to get around to doing one for my blog?! Can I hire you? :)
I know you'll be sad to leave CA next year, but if it's any consolation, the colors here are fabulous...though you wouldn't know it from my blog!
