We'd been hoping to spend the afternoon at the beach or the park, but the rain foiled those plans. So, when the girls woke from their naps, we went with plan B -- bowling!
We told Kathleen that we were going on a special adventure, hopped in the car, and drove (in the pouring rain, mind you) the four or so blocks to the post bowling alley. We timed our arrival perfectly, because there were lots of lanes available when we showed up, but by the time we left, the place was pretty full.
Anyway, Kathleen was very excited about the "special shoes."
And all those bowling balls? Kathleen could hardly stand it! She picked out her yellow, 7 pound ball and insisted on carrying it herself.
With some bumpers, a ramp, and a little explanation, Kathleen was ready to go. She didn't seem to completely understand about hitting the pins, but that didn't keep her from loving it.
Even Madeline got in some bowling -- sort of!
When we'd had enough of bowling we packed everyone back into the car and headed to Zippy's, a local favorite, for a dinner of rice and chili. Yum.
And if we have another rainy weekend, we might just do the whole thing over again!

LOVE the video and the pic of Kathleen in her bowling shoes. She looks so Euro! :-)
What a great idea!
Loved the pic of Madeline and also the video of Kathleen...maybe B is for Better Plan. :)
Too cute! And how do I get one of those bowling ramps?!? I love all of it. What a fun day!
T is for tall. That baby looks like a little girl ready for kindergarten. What a cutie!

PS- What kind of baby pack is Madeline riding in? Would you recommend it?
The first thing Ben said this morning when he woke up was "When can we go bowling again?"-then I logged on and saw your post!
The excitement of bowling never wanes with Ben. He loves the little ramp, but he also loves to roll the ball down the lane. More than once, the ball has slowed to a complete stop! We have even had a little disaggrement when he would only use a blue ball, and the smallest was 12 pounds!
Looks like you had fun on a rainy day!
I've never seen a ramp before! What an invention. We've yet to take Drew bowling but I think you've just inspired us. I think I'm afraid Drew will be better than I am!
For the record, Kathleen was definitely better than I was. I like to attribute that to the 17-pound darling on my back, but we all know the truth: coordination is just not my thing. Still, we had a lot of fun!
Krissy, the backpack is a Beco Baby Carrier. Here's the link, but you can google it just as easily: http://www.becobabycarrier.com
I've been pretty happy with it. I like that it's convertible; we used it as a front carrier at first, we've used it as a backpack even with Kathleen (that's 35 pounds, people!), and I use it most often as a hip carrier. Madeline's happiness with it has evolved a little -- she wasn't crazy about it at first, but now she's pretty good about it. Now if I could just figure out how to get her on my back without help...
